How to create Rules in Outlook Express to divert possible Spam

Don't forget to make sure the tickbox "Leave a copy of messages on server" is NOT ticked to speed up your email collection.

The rest of this page explains how to create a special folder in Outlook Express and then set up a filtering Rule to divert emails which have been marked as possible Spam (which have '[***SPAM?***' in the Subject of the email).

The first task is to create a new folder to hold the suspected Spam:

1. In Outlook Express, right-click on your Inbox. You will see a screen similar to this:-

2. Select 'New folder...' from the popup menu, then type Spam? in the box for 'Folder name:' and click OK.

You now have a new folder ready to receive your unwanted Spam. The screen should look like this:-

3. Pull down the Tools menu and select Message Rules --> Mail...

4. In the Conditions section, tick "Where the Subject line contains..."
In the Actions section, tick "Move it to the specified folder"
Give the new Rule the name "Spam?" but don't click OK just yet!

5. Click the underlined blue text contains specific words, then type [***SPAM?*** and click the Add button then click OK.

6. Click the underlined blue text specified, then specify the new folder you created in Step 2 above. Click OK.

7. Click OK again to return to the main Outlook Express window.

Your new mail filtering Rule will divert incoming emails marked as spam into your Spam? folder, where you may delete them, ignore them or read them as you please.

Don't forget to make sure the tickbox "Leave a copy of messages on server" is NOT ticked to speed up your email collection.
